Hi my name is Sam, I've worked at the woodlands for over 16 years, for me its home from home and has a family feel. I have worked with all the age groups over the years but mostly with the under twos. I am married with two children, my daughter is 7 she is loving school, very lively and a very talkative and independent young lady. She attended Woodlands and often talks about the staff and her memories. My son is 2 years old he also attends nursery, he too is very talkative and if you ask any staff member they will say he gets that from me !! He loves to explore and get involved, the messier the better.
My husband works away in the week so the weekends are very important to us, as National Trust members we like to get out and about and explore. Our weeks are very busy with work, swimming lessons, dancing and soon cricket lessons !!
I take lots of photos which I use for my scrapbooking, its a great way to share your memories.

I joined the Squirrels Team in September 2018 as Team Leader.

The Badgers Group
Team leader Marie Fearn
Hi I'm Marie, I have two children who are now both adults, my son still lives at home and my daughter lives in Egypt.
I brought them up on my own and when they started to get older I decided to re-train and become a Nursery Nurse, something I had wanted to do since school. I went to college and achieved a Diploma in Childcare and Education (DCE).
I started Woodlands in July 2001, my first job after qualifying, for the first two years I worked in the owls group and then worked in the Hedgehogs as Team leader and I then went to the Badgers as Team Leader.
When I'm not at work, apart from the usual household tasks, I like to go out for meals and meet up with friends. My other main interest is football and I have a season ticket for Derby County, I also like to watch other sports especially tennis and athletics. I recently joined a walking group which is keeping me active and I'm enjoy meeting up with new people and taking regular walks.

The Wise Owls
Team Leader Macauley Smith
Hi my name is Macauley, I moved to Derby 4 years ago from South Yorkshire to study Child Education at Derby University. I have studied all aspects of childhood, birth, theories of development and learning, health and wellbeing, safeguarding and effective educational practice.
My degree lead to the beginning of my journey at the Woodlands nursery when, in my first year, I completed 4 months of placement within the owls group. I loved my time here and I was eager to return, and became a relief staff member while I completed my degree. I have now gained a BA Honors degree in Child Education and a full time Wise owls Teacher.
I love keeping active, spending nearly all my time playing football, watching football or thinking about football ...I'm football mad !!!
